“Whoo, do we have issues with our hair” claims Oprah in a new video promoting the September issue of O Magazine in a mesmerizing wig. Styled as a large halo afro, her hair steals the spotlight, clocking in at 3 ½ pounds, virtually the same size as a small Chihuahua.
Oprah glows on the cover in a tangerine wrap dress, gold dangly de Grisogono earrings, an infectious smile, and all 3 ½ pounds of that hair with the headline: “Let’s talk about HAIR!”
Oprah first revealed the cover yesterday on Instagram, which has already garnered over 75,000 likes.
Stylist Kim Kimble from The Voice (who’s also worked with Beyonce) provided the faux hair wig, which traveled in style to the shoot in a hot pink custom made box that ensured the wig remained upright, according to the magazine. Oprah’s loyal hair guru Andre Walker styled the wig.
As a young girl growing up in rural Mississippi, Oprah reveals: “My grandmother used to tell me girl your hair is your crown and glory. When I was 22 years old, got a bad perm and lost all my hair, I thought I had lost myself. And I think that’s really how women feel…we identify with what our hair looks like.”
The issue promotes all types of hair, from straight, curly, long, short, weaves, natural, and wigs. During her 25-year reign on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah rarely wore her hair au natural, but she showcased her natural locks on last year’s September issue. A slideshow on the magazine’s website showcases 59 years of Oprah’s hair, from schoolgirl braids a la Pippy Longstockings to a short bob to sleek shoulder length hair leading up to her natural curls unhindered by creams or relaxers.
The issue hits newsstands August 13.
