A fire that started in the laundry room at the Grand Wailea resort was extinguished by employees before firefighters arrived Monday, a fire official said.

The fire was reported at 11:56 a.m. Firefighters from Wailea engine and ladder companies made sure the fire was out and left the scene, said Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.

He said the fire possibly started in the dryer. There was no exact determination of cause and no damage estimate, he said.
